This week I:
- Held my monthly surgery at City Library. The main concerns raised ASB and drug dealing in residential areas, which I raised with the police and community safety teams.
- Asked officers, again, about why Blackett Street remains open to cars and vans when it is supposed to be restricted to buses
- Objected to an application from Motel Mexicana to remove ‘outdated conditions’. The conditions include restrictions on irresponsible alcohol promotions (which support the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety) and a requirement on the operator to actively manage noise from the premises (supports prevention of public nuisance). There is nothing ‘outdated’ about this.
- Received a response about my concerns about the impact of the demonstrations on asylum seekers living at the former hotel. They told officers that they didn’t understand why people disliked them so much and how eager they were to work and get off benefits. (In the UK asylum seekers are not allowed to work while they are waiting for a decision on their case.)
