Councillor for Monument Ward, Newcastle upon Tyne 2018-2026.

I didn’t stand for council this year and I won’t be standing in 2027.

I’m just as convinced as I’ve always been about the importance of local government and local democracy. But I can’t offer people the change that is needed. And I’m not willing to ask people for their votes if I don’t think that I can make things better for them.

Newcastle City Council doesn’t work for the people of the city any more. Whenever there is a choice between private profit and the public interest, profit wins.

That will only stop when people are willing to fight for change.

I think the answer is socialist councillors. I’m a member of Your Party because it offers a genuine opportunity for a socialist approach to government focused on standing up for residents; fighting to protect services; supporting communities; and rejecting racism.

Whatever your principles, however, you can’t change things if you don’t understand what’s going on. So I’m using this site, which I originally set up so that I could tell people about as a councillor, to share what I’ve learned.

If anyone has any suggestions for what I should cover, please get in touch.

It was a privilege to represent Monument Ward for 8 years. Thank you for having me as one of your councillors.
